Padar Island, The Best View And Sunset in Komodo National Park

You’ve almost certainly seen a photograph of the classic Jurassic scenery atop the Padar Island walk viewpoint in Komodo National Park. In fact, if you Google “Komodo Island,” it’s likely to be the first image that comes up.

Padar Island Indonesia

Padar Island in Komodo National Park’s third-largest island. Long before modern tourism, the island was home to the Komodo dragon. However, there are no Komodo dragons in that location any longer.

Hiking in Padar Island

The Komodo National Park has constructed a wooden pathway, making the hike’s start considerably easier. It’s only a short but steep climb from here to various grassy observation hills where you may get a variety of views over the magnificent island.

If you have a camera or even a passing interest in landscape photography, the Padar Island hike will undoubtedly be your type of adventure. I’m not one to brag about a vista that’s been captured millions of times, but this one was so beautiful that I couldn’t help but rant. Perhaps it’s better to let the photographs speak for themselves.

The Padar Island viewpoint is about 185 meters above sea level at its highest point. The terrain is pretty steep, but it does not necessitate any special equipment. The Padar Island tour isn’t challenging, and anyone in good physical shape should be OK. It shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes to walk from the beach to the summit.

How to go to Padar?

Those who have already arrived in Labuan Bajo Flores can plan a one-day or multi-day boat cruise departing from the main harbor. Unfortunately, there are no public boats that go to Padar Island, so you’ll have to schedule an Island hopping excursion.

In Labuan Bajo, there are several of these island-hopping cruises to choose from. It is recommended that you try to organize these trips with other travelers to save money. You’ll either get a speedy (1.5 hours) or slow (3 hours) boat depending on which trip you choose. Faster boats are usually preferable because they allow you to spend more time on the islands.

Most day-trips to Komodo National Park include stops at Pink Beach, Manta Point, Komodo Island, and Rinca Island, so if you’re planning to visit these places anyway, traveling on the same day will save you money. The revised National Park Fees are listed below.
